Frequently Asked Questions
No. We have people here every week who are from various Christian churches who are drawn to our community as their church home. They have found a home with us and fully participate in the mission and life at Emmanuel.
Emmanuel is one church that services multiple communities. In essence, we are three congregations reaching out to different communities around the Naples’ area, but united as one church organization. We work together. Two congregations meet every Sunday at Mooring Line Drive (in the Main Sanctuary and in the Family Life Center) and one starts new in 2020 on the grounds of a new park we are developing on Oil Well Road around 20 miles from the main sanctuary.
The ELCA is the largest Lutheran church in the US. We have around 9,000 congregations with 3.4 million members. In addition, we enjoy strong ecumenical relationships with many other churches in the US. Our service agencies touch one out of every 50 Americans annually. Worldwide we belong to the Lutheran World Federation with 148 Lutheran churches representing over 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries.
Questions are valued at Emmanuel. Our congregation offers numerous places to ask questions. We offer a new member class at least twice a year where lots of questions are asked. On Sunday morning, our Forums are ideal and designed for questions of all sorts. There are also various small groups and bible studies that are a rich environment for group questions and discussions.
The short answer is “yes.” We believe that Jesus Christ is the host of the meal. Jesus invites all to come to his table. All are welcome! You should come to the table knowing that Jesus is present, that you have sinned, and that Jesus forgives you. If you have additional questions about our teachings around Communion, contact one of the pastors. In addition, we offer classes regularly on Communion and other central teachings and practices of the church.
There are many service groups, ministry opportunities, fellowship groups, bible studies, etc. So, the best way to find out how to become involved is to call our person in charge of church engagement, Theresa Shaw. She can listen to your interests, experience, and commitments and suggest how you can best find your spot. Call her at (239) 261-0894 ext. 312.
