Steven Wigdahl
Senior Pastor

About Me

The Rev. Steven Wigdahl grew up in a small Iowa town, Ruthven, with a population of only 700 residents.  He became involved in the Lutheran Church at a national level during his high school and college years, graduating in 1975 with a double major in Speech/Theatre and Religion from Lutheran College in Decorah, Iowa.

After a short stay at Luther/Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, he departed seminary convinced he was not to pursue the call to pastoral ministry.  A transition was made to Brown Institute, a radio/TV broadcasting school in Minneapolis.  From there he went on to work in the broadcast industry, ending up at KDLM Radio in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where he attended First Lutheran Church and was involved in community theatre.

Time would see his return to the seminary, which occurred in 1980.  During this time, he served a pastoral internship in Salt Lake City, Utah before graduating from the seminary in 1984.  He was ordained in his home Iowa congregation on August 19, 1984 and returned to Utah to serve at Ascension Lutheran Church for fifteen years, relocating the congregation from a side street to Main Street.

In 1999 he received a call to move across the country and has remained at Emmanuel Lutheran.  He is strongly rooted in the purity of God’s love and grace which welcomes all into the congregational community.  He continues to be excited about raising up new leaders in the 21st century church and is further motivated as Emmanuel Lutheran looks beyond its own doors to serve alongside community organizations for the common good.
