Children’s Faith Formation at Oil Well Road

Welcome to Children’s Faith Formation, where children from preschool through 6th grade are invited to discover God’s love through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences.

Each week, children grow in their faith through Bible stories, Scripture verses, prayer, songs, service opportunities, crafts, and hands-on activities. Along the way, they learn what it means to follow Jesus, serve others, and live out God’s Word.

Whether your child is just beginning to learn about God’s love or is ready to take deeper steps in faith, there’s a place for everyone!

Children’s Leadership

Deacon Dee Schleutker

At Little Theologians, every child receives a stole as a reminder that they are a valued part of God’s family and an important member of our church community. Just as Pastor Jay and I, as a deacon, wear stoles as symbols of service and faith, our Little Theologians wear their stoles as they grow in their knowledge of God.

Throughout the year, children can earn Biblical lapel pins to display on their stole. Each pin celebrates a step in their faith journey and encourages them to continue growing as disciples of Jesus.

Children can earn their pins by:

  • Attending Little Theologians classes and church

  • Participating in our worship service (singing, assisting with communion and offering)

  • Learning and reciting Bible verses

  • Offering the opening or closing prayer for Little Theologians

  • Bringing a friend to church or Little Theologians

Each pin represents and achievement. As children collect pins, their stoles become visible reminders of their spiritual growth. Every pin tells part of their story as a Little Theologian and reminds them that they are growing in faith.

First Communion

We believe Holy Communion is a gift of God’s grace, given freely to all the baptized. At Emmanuel Church we welcome children to the Lord’s Table after a time of age-appropriate instruction. First communion instruction helps children and their families understand the meaning of this Holy meal:

The bread and wine are the body and blood of Christ, given and shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. Through communion we are reminded of God’s unconditional love, nourished in faith, and strengthened to live as followers of Jesus in daily life. This is a joyful milestone in a child’s faith journey, and we celebrate it together as a congregation.
