THIS WEEK’S SUNDAY FORUM. STEPHEN MINISTRY: CELEBRATING THE FIRST MARTYR AT EMMANUEL

Who Was the First Martyr of the Church? Saint Stephen is recognized as the first martyr of the Christian church. In the early days of the church, Stephen was known for his deep faith, wisdom, and commitment to serving others. As one of the first deacons, he cared for those in need and boldly proclaimed the message of Jesus Christ. His witness to Christ—even in the face of death—became a powerful testimony in the early church and continues to inspire believers today.

His witness to Christ—even in the face of death—became a powerful testimony in the early church and continues to inspire believers today.

At Emmanuel, we reflect on Stephen’s legacy through our Stephen Ministry Program, which continues his spirit of care by equipping trained volunteers to walk alongside those experiencing difficult times, offering prayer, compassion, and Christ-centered support.

We invite you to watch the Sunday Forum video to learn more about St. Stephen and how his ministry connects to Stephen Ministry here at Emmanuel.

Then, join us this Sunday at 10:15 AM for further discussion. You may feel called to become a Stephen Minister—or know someone who could benefit from having a Stephen Minister walk with them through a challenging season.

LECTIONARY PLUS: Prepare for Worship This Sunday.

This Week’s Readings: Romans 8:6-11 • Ezekiel 37:1-14 • John 11:1-45

As we prepare our hearts for worship this Sunday, we invite you to spend time in these powerful readings.

In Ezekiel, we encounter the vivid image of the valley of dry bones—where God brings life out of what seems lifeless, reminding us of His power to restore and renew. In John’s Gospel, we hear the story of Lazarus, where Jesus meets us in moments of grief, loss, and death, and reveals His authority over life itself.

This Sunday, Pastor Bliese will reflect on Ezekiel’s vision of the dry bones at Oil Well Road, while Pastor Shailer will explore the story of Lazarus and what it teaches us about grief, hope, and resurrection as we move closer to Holy Week.

Take time this week to read, reflect, and pray over these texts. Then join us for worship as we hear how God’s Word speaks into our lives today—and invites us to trust in His promise of new life.
