Hurricane  Relief

Emmanuel’s response: We had another $2,100 contributed from our congregation to Lutheran Disaster Response this past week and again Emmanuel Lutheran Church matched the donation totaling our additional gift to the Florida-Bahama Synod $4,200. This makes our grand total $20, 800 for hurricane relief. We know that this money will help many in need. Thank you to all who have contributed to the Lutheran Disaster Relief Fund.

The situation:
In the wake of recent hurricanes, communities in Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee are facing significant damage to homes and infrastructure. Many families have been displaced and are in urgent need of support. Every contribution counts, so let’s come together to support our neighbors in their time of need.

Florida-Bahama Synod response:
Lutheran Disaster Response works with its partners to provide immediate relief, such as water, food, clothing, gift cards, tarps and other needs. Since many hurricanes also require a long-term response, Lutheran Disaster Response provides support on the long road to recovery with disaster case management, construction management, attention to unmet needs, and emotional and spiritual care.

In their latest newsletter the Florida-Bahama Synod shows images and explains the devastation of many congregations around the state and how our donations will help those people. At the end of the update there is a little write-up about Pastor Lois Sorensen (one of our former resident pastors) and Pastor Carlos Ham, Assistant to the Bishop and Director for Evangelical Mission in the South, celebrating Reformation Sunday and Reformation Lutheran Church’s 35th anniversary.
